Wrong size waist

I'm a 34" waist. All of my trousers and jeans are 34". However, a 34" in these trousers doesn't fit. In fact the 36" only just fits and creates some tightness across the hips that cause the pockets to flair our. Unfortunately the lining of the pockets is white (why not black or blue!?) so it's obvious. Other than that I also don't think the legs are sized quite right.

The trousers are good quality and the waist fit was good as well. However the length, in my case 29” proved to be bordering on too short . I seem to fit 29” trousers with some retailers but not M&S!

I've given 4 stars for quality, but I found the sizing of these men's trousers misleading? The length comes in "short, regular or long" My husband is a 29"leg so ordered a 36" waist "regular" length but the regular is 31, far too long. The quality is good, but I will be returning for fit.
