Light layering is all about easy, wearable pieces that you can throw on or take off, depending on the changeable spring weather. Think flowy trousers and skirts for volume, paired with structured jackets and cosy knits for texture. Look for breathable fabrics so you don't overheat when heading out and about.

'The cropped jackets and balloon-shaped trousers add shape to the look, which allows me to keep the overall palette simple whilst styling,' says El.

Recreate El's casually chic look by experimenting with shape and colour. Start with a pair of pure linen trousers as a base and team with a shirred blouse – the fitted silhouette keeps the layers from looking too bulky. Top with a lightweight linen jacket and cinch the drawstring waist for definition. Throw on crochet-style ballet flats and a woven bucket bag to add texture.
